Signing of Cooperation Protocol between the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council and the British University in Egypt

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the British University in Egypt hosted the signing of a joint cooperation protocol between the British University in Egypt and the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council. The protocol aims to enhance academic, scientific, and cultural collaboration between the two institutions.

The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Yehia Bahey El-Din, Vice President for Research and Projects, on behalf of the university's President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, and by Mr. Seif Allah Fahmy, Chairman of the Board of Directors, on behalf of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Wadouda Badran, Dean of the College of Business Administration, Economics, and Political Science; Prof. Dr. Hoda Hassaballah, Head of the Economics Department; Dr. Maha Al-Heini, Associate Professor of Economics; Dr. Dina Kafafi; and Mr. Nabil Sobhy, Acting Executive Director of the Council.

The protocol outlines cooperation between the two parties in conducting joint research activities, drafting policy documents, and engaging in advocacy efforts to support decision-makers in Egypt. It also includes information exchange in common areas and the sharing of technical and academic expertise through lectures, seminars, and collaborative discussions.

Prof. Dr. Yehia Bahey El-Din emphasized that this partnership reaffirms the university’s commitment to advancing scientific research, fostering innovation, and enhancing competitiveness. He stated: "We are confident that this agreement will strengthen the capabilities of researchers and foster innovative solutions to current challenges, benefiting both the academic community and the national economy. This collaboration will bring academic research into practical use, ultimately improving performance levels across various sectors."

He further highlighted the British University in Egypt's belief in the importance of cooperation with both governmental and non-governmental institutions to drive economic transformation through capacity building and innovation. The university places a strong emphasis on scientific research and seeks to strengthen partnerships with government bodies and other institutions to produce studies and reports that contribute to public policy formulation and support the national economy. Through this protocol, the university aims to exchange expertise with the National Competitiveness Council, playing a key role in the development of research and reports addressing economic and social challenges and providing scientifically grounded recommendations that support sustainable development.

Mr. Seif Allah Fahmy, Chairman of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council, remarked that the signing of this memorandum of understanding reflects a genuine commitment to fostering cooperation between academia, the economic sectors, and civil society in Egypt. "This partnership comes at a critical time when we must leverage all available resources to address the growing economic and developmental challenges. Through this collaboration, we aim to provide innovative and sustainable solutions that enhance Egypt’s global competitiveness, with a focus on integrating academic research into the development of effective economic policies."

He continued: "What we are witnessing today is more than just a memorandum of understanding – it is a shared commitment to a better economic future. Together, we will work to improve the business environment, achieve sustainable growth, and support innovation."

Fahmy expressed his hope that this cooperation will lead to research projects and strategic initiatives that address the real needs of the Egyptian economy and contribute to Egypt’s Vision 2030. He noted that supporting institutions like the British University in Egypt is vital to the Council’s ability to deliver evidence-based policies, helping improve economic performance and strengthen Egypt's standing in global competitiveness rankings.

The Faculty of Business Administration, Economics, and Political Science at the British University in Egypt is expected to play a central role in implementing the protocol, given its expertise and extensive studies in fields that align with the agreement's objectives.
