Egypt Public Finance & Competitiveness Observatory
The Observatory brings together the latest available fiscal and economic indicators with historical series kept separate by frequency and meaning. Dates on every card and chart refer to the actual observation period, not the report-release month.

Analytical takeaways
- Revenue in July–August FY2026/27 reached EGP 533.2 billion and the primary surplus was about EGP 187.9 billion. Interest absorbed 60.33% of expenditure, constraining fiscal room for investment and services.
- Urban headline inflation eased to 13.9% and core inflation to 14.1% in September 2026. The 24 September decision held deposit and lending rates at 19% and 20%; lower inflation does not mean a lower price level.
- Annual real GDP growth increased to 5.1% in FY2025/26 from 4.4% a year earlier. Investment quality, productivity and the reach of employment gains remain central to competitiveness.
- Market capitalisation stood at EGP 4,056 billion and net international reserves at USD 57.35 billion at end-September 2026. These are dated stocks and should not be directly compared with full-year flows.
- The current-account deficit reached USD 22.46 billion in FY2025/26. Strong remittances and tourism support external resources, while more diverse exports and productive investment remain necessary.
Coverage and methodology
- October 2026 update. Each observation retains its own period and unit; fiscal years, cumulative fiscal windows, months and period-end stocks remain distinct.
- Official tables and the accompanying workbook are complementary. Each metric, period, unit and scope is displayed once, retaining source precision. Missing periods are not interpolated and different definitions are not merged by name.
- Annual and fiscal-YTD values do not form one continuous series. FY2020/21 current-account/GDP values are omitted because published figures conflict; that chart begins with the next qualified period.
- Budget targets and figures that are not actual observations are excluded from these charts. Source revision markings and limitations remain applicable; conflicting values are not replaced by unregistered calculations.
- Scaling display values to billions does not change the original data. Observation dates differ from the report-release month; a newer monthly observation does not make every report series current to that month.
